A few years ago, on the top shelf in the closet, I found a flowered carton box filled with colored silk threads, a bunch of old family photos and an envelope with a school notebook inside. Bianca is my middle name. I was born in 1982. Bianca is also the first name of this little girl born in the northern Italian region of Veneto in 1924. In this notebook, it’s her facing the world as a kid, in a forgotten Italy and in a forgotten time. This is Bianca, my grandma. In her own written words.
